This study showed that the active jailed balloon technique better preserves the side branch ostium compared with the jailed wire technique. Three-dimensional optical coherence tomography (OCT) served as the key imaging tool to precisely reconstruct and quantify ostial area changes, providing objective evidence of the strategies’ effects.
The study shows that quantitative OCT assessment of calcified coronary lesions (calcium area and volume) can better predict stent under-expansion than angiographic grading. OCT serves as both the pre-PCI tool for precise lesion characterization and the post-PCI tool for evaluating stent expansion.
